There are three types of heat transfer. They are radiation, convection, and conduction Conduction is the transfer of heat by heated materials. When something warm touches something else the molecules bump together. This produces kinetic energy. Then the kinetic energy produces heat, which makes the other thing warm. Radiation is the transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves. Heat radiated from the sun heats up our atmosphere. Convection is the transfer of heat by heated materials. This happens when warm air rises and cold air takes its place. This then happens over and over, the warm and cold air go in circles creating convection currents.
