A front is a boundary between two air masses.  A front can occur at one of these four boundaries:

warm
cold
occluded
stationary

Fronts are caused by warm and cool air rising and falling. Warm fronts occur where warm air is rising over a certain area and causes weather.  A cold front occurs when cold air forces warmer air up on a steep angle, and causes stormy weather.
